Seoul's Jung District spent 120 million won ($84,000) to upgrade aging facilities at Namsan Forest Daycare Center, completing the renovation work on the 2nd of this month.
The project focused on creating a safer play environment for children and making the center easier to use.
Using 80 million won in private donations, the district fully replaced a sandbox play area that had been at risk of breaking apart and painted character murals on exterior walls and other surfaces.
At the entrance, the district extended a canopy to provide shelter from rain and also repaired the aging front gate, leaking pipes and flooring in the childcare rooms.
Beyond Namsan Forest Daycare Center, the district has been improving childcare facilities based on the condition of each site this year, including replacing safety mats at seven daycare centers in the area.
Jung District Mayor Kim Gil-sung said, "We will build childcare conditions that parents can entrust their children to with confidence."
