President Bola Tinubu has said he will not attend every campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, directing party leaders to take charge of nationwide mobilisation while he focuses on governance and attracting investment.
Tinubu made the position known on Wednesday in Abuja while inaugurating the APC Presidential Campaign Council, stressing that Nigeria’s economic challenges and financial obligations required his attention.
“You’ve warned me not to allow the rigour of the campaign to distract me from governance, I hear you. I am in full agreement with your decision. Nigeria needs more attention now,” the President said.
He urged council members to understand that his participation in campaign tours would be limited, citing the country’s financial commitments and the need to meet obligations to foreign creditors.
“So, you will excuse me from going everywhere with you, we have bills to pay. The American creditors cannot wait,” Tinubu said.
The President also underscored the importance of attracting investors willing to establish sustainable businesses and commit resources to Nigeria’s long-term economic growth.
“We want those investors to come in, be here to stay, to invest for the future of our children,” he added.
Despite his planned absence from some rallies, Tinubu promised to engage Nigerians directly while the campaign council coordinates mobilisation across states and local government areas.
He described the council’s inauguration as a renewed commitment to Nigerians, urging members to translate the administration’s policies and achievements into votes.
“This council will carry our vision, our records and our agenda to every Nigerian, and it will carry them to victory in every ward of this country,” he said.
Tinubu also challenged party members to deliver electoral victories in their respective wards, warning that their efforts would count only when they secured votes in 2027.
