The Chicago Bears beat the New England Patriots, 30-24, on Thursday Night Football in Week 7. The Patriots got back in the game right before halftime thanks to a defensive lapse by the Bears, but Chicago held on at home to improve to 5-2 on the season.
Caleb Williams completed 22-of-33 passes for 308 yards and threw two touchdown passes in the win. Drake Maye connected on 24-of-31 passes for 321 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in a loss. After the game the two young star quarterbacks met at midfield to shake hands.
Amazon posted a video of the meeting and it appears that Williams wanted to exchange more than just pleasantries. After a quick bro hug Williams tapped Maye’s jersey as he pulled away. Williams continued to point, seeming to indicate he wanted to do a jersey swap, with the NFL on Prime Video account indicating he said, “Can I get that?”

Who knows what Maye when he turned back, but if he did give Williams his jersey, he didn’t stick around on the field to do so. Williams and Maye are both in their third seasons after they were respectively the first and third picks in the 2024 NFL draft so they will always share that connection. Maybe they’ll exchange jerseys behind the scenes or after this year’s Super Bowl. Who knows.

The Bears will now have a very long week off before taking on the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks on “Monday Night Football” in Week 8. The Patriots will have an excellent chance to bounce back with a game next Sunday against the winless Miami Dolphins. Malik Willis should try and swap jerseys with Maye after that game just to see what happens.
