To draw attention to the importance and development of Polish education in Latvia, as well as to emphasize the role of education in promoting national identity, cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, a conference titled: “35 years since the revival of Polish education in Latvia. The legacy of Ita Kozakeviča and the future of Polish schools” will be held in the Saeima, Latvia's parliament, on Tuesday, October 13.
The event is dedicated to the contribution of Ita Kozakeviča, a driving force behind the renewal of Polish education, an activist of the Latvian Popular Front, a public figure, and a member of the Supreme Council, as well as the 35th anniversary of the Riga Polish Secondary School named after her.
The conference will be opened by the Speaker of the Saeima, Daiga Mieriņa, and the Chargé d'affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Latvia, Tomasz Szeratics. Kristīne Barkovska, acting principal of Ita Kozakeviča Riga Polish Secondary School, will also address the attendees.
The conference participants will look back on the more than century-long development of Polish education in Latvia and highlight Ita Kozakeviča's contribution to strengthening the Polish community and education.
In a panel discussion, MPs, education workers and diplomats will discuss the current situation, achievements and future challenges of Polish education. In turn, Polish school students and graduates will share their experiences about the opportunities provided by education.
The conference will take place on Tuesday, October 13th, at 13:00. Anyone interested will be able to follow its progress on the Saeima website www.saeima.lv, as well as on the parliament's Facebook and YouTube accounts.
