The struggle by government arts and science colleges to manage the situation, a month after a section of senior faculty was promoted to the post of Principal in Grade II colleges, is perceptible.
The work load, wherever possible is being apportioned to the existing faculty in the departments, to complete the portions. However, the vacuum is still felt in the absence of replacement, the college heads say.
The State government is likely to look into filling of the vacancies due to the promotions after completing the process of transfer counselling, it is learnt.
The deadline was extended from the last month-end, for applicants of transfer counselling.
The process, emphasise the college heads, must be expedited. They fear that they would, otherwise, be pushed into a situation of appointing temporary faculty through PTA (Parent Teacher Association), for lesser remuneration than the Guest Lecturers.
The teachers appointed through PTA are usually paid not more than ₹15,000 per month, compared to ₹25,000 per month given to the guest lecturers.
Be it the teachers appointed through PTA or the guest lecturers, the pay being meagre, the college heads say motivating them and extracting their commitment is quite an ordeal.
According to senior regular faculty, the Government ought to give serious consideration for fixing at least ₹50,000 as monthly remuneration for the guest lecturers.
