KUALA LUMPUR: The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) is investigating chicken slaughtering methods at a premises near Pudu Market following a video circulating on social media.
Its director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee said in a statement that the probe also involved local authorities.
"A thorough investigation is being carried out into the issue involving a company that does not hold a Malaysia Halal Certification Certificate and the chicken issue currently circulating online," he said.
Putrajaya member of parliament Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin had urged Jakim to investigate the slaughtering methods, halal status and where the chicken processed at the premises was supplied and sold.
He also called for a joint investigation involving Kuala Lumpur City Hall, the Health Ministry and the Immigration Department to examine hygiene, compliance with the law, possible misuse of the halal logo and the work permit status of foreign workers.
