“Dig,” the upcoming Peacock comedy starring Amy Poehler, has added a handful of actors to its ensemble.
Jason Mantzoukas, Brennan Lee Mulligan and Noma Dumezweni have landed recurring roles in the series, while Max Greenfield and Dan Bucatinsky will guest star.
Based on Kate Myers’ book “Excavations,” “Dig” follows a team of dedicated archaeologists (and less-dedicated college students) who spend their summer working on a dig site in Greece. Per the logline, “Their discovery of a rare artifact sends them on the adventure of a lifetime.”
All episodes of the series will premiere on Peacock on Nov. 23.
According to character descriptions provided by the streamer, Mantzoukas plays Lambros, a local store owner and occasional looter of the treasures unearthed at the dig site. Mulligan plays Marcus Robertson Jr. (“M.R.”), a wealthy dilettante who is trying to decide whether to donate money to support the dig. Dumezweni is Evelyn, Clare’s (Antonia Thomas) mother, who looms very large in Clare’s life and weighs in on her decisions whether Clare wants her to or not. Greenfield plays Andrew, a high-society art dealer who Elise (Amy Poehler) meets at a fancy party. And Bucatinsky is Fritz, a New York museum director who takes an interest in Clare’s career.
Poehler leads the cast, which also features Hugh Laurie, Geraldine Viswanathan, Antonia Thomas and Fina Strazza. Poehler co-created “Dig” with her former “Parks and Recreation” boss Michael Schur, who also co-created “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and was one of the major creative forces behind the American “Office.”
J.J. Philbin also serves as a writer on the series, executive producing alongside Morgan Sackett, Dean Holland, Kate Arend, Jordan Grief, Dave Becky, David Miner and Sharon Jackson. Author Myers is also an EP. The series is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, Fremulon, Paper Kite, Duck Duck Films, Dunshire, 3 Arts and Ocean Avenue.
