SHILLONG, Oct 19: Former Mawphlang Block Congress Committee (MBCC) president George C Sun on Monday joined the Voice of the People Party (VPP), saying that growing public disillusionment with political leaders had created the need for an alternative that could restore people’s hope in politics.
Sun, who is also the former secretary of the East Khasi Hills District Congress Committee, joined the party along with his supporters at a reception at Mawngap.
He said many people had grown disillusioned with politics after repeatedly being let down by political leaders, but the VPP’s principles had revived hope among the public.
Sun was welcomed into the party by VPP president and Nongkrem MLA Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, Mawlai MLA Brightstarwell Marbaniang, party MDCs from the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council, and other party leaders and workers, including members of the VPP Women’s Wing.
A former Congress youth leader, Sun had contested the 2025 KHADC elections from the Mawphlang-Diengiei constituency but failed to win.
Clarifying his decision to join the VPP, Sun said he had not entered the party with the expectation of securing a ticket for the next election. He said the decision on his candidature would be left to the party leadership.
