LAHORE: Punjab Police is continuing to take vigorous action against violations of the Anti-Kite Flying Act across the province, a police spokesperson said.
While giving details, the police said that this year, 11,397 accused have been arrested and 10,849 cases have been registered for violating the Anti-Kite Flying Act across the province.
During the period 599,340 kites have been recovered from the accused.
The police further said that 5740 accused were arrested in provincial capital Lahore while 5466 cases were registered. From Lahore over 2,17,000 kites and 7875 string spinning wheels (Charkhi) were recovered.
Inspector General of Police Punjab has issued clear instructions that the illegal kite flying will not be tolerated anywhere in the province. The police chief has also ordered arrest of the people involved in illegal metal string and online kite business.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a 10-day Basant festival to be celebrated across the province, ARY News earlier reported.
The Chief Minister directed authorities to organize the 10-day event to mark the arrival of 2027.
In accordance with her instructions, the Basant festivities will run across the province from January 29 to February 7, 2027.
The decision comes after the festival made a grand return to the province last year following a hiatus of 25 years.
Earlier, authorities in Lahore appealed to residents to complete safety measures ahead of Basant 2027, saying the steps are aimed at protecting lives and ensuring a safe festival.
The district administration in Lahore has also imposed a complete ban on the transportation of kite-flying materials through courier companies and transport services in the city.
