(NWS)-- As of 1 a.m. ChST this morning, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center upgraded Invest 96W to Tropical Depression 29W.
As of 7 a.m. ChST, TD 29W was moving northwest at 13 MPH and is expected to maintain this forward speed as it approaches the Marianas. Maximum sustained wind speed was estimated at 35 MPH.
The current forecast shows a possible strong typhoon passing between Guam and Rota on Sunday.
However, this forecast is subject to change, so all of the Marianas should prepare for at least tropical-storm-force winds of 39-74 MPH. Heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and dangerous marine conditions are forecast for all of the Marianas. Please refer to the graphic for the forecast and key points. Continue preparations, ideally finishing up by Saturday evening.
As a reminder, NWS Guam does not determine the status of Conditions of Readiness (COR) and Tropical Cyclone Conditions of Readiness.
