A fire caused by an electrical short circuit at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) early Thursday morning left the hospital’s administrative building without electricity for nearly six hours, disrupting administrative activities and causing inconvenience to patients.
Kazi Sabiha, assistant director (administration) of RMCH, confirmed the incident. The fire broke out at around 6:00am near a switchboard adjacent to the administrative section. A nurse on duty noticed the blaze and immediately alerted the Fire Service, whose personnel arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control.
The hospital’s electricity supply remained disrupted for approximately six hours before it was restored around noon. Following the restoration of power, regular healthcare services resumed, although activities in the administrative section remained suspended.
The power outage caused considerable suffering for patients who had come to the hospital to receive treatment. Patients and their relatives were also reportedly thrown into panic when the fire broke out.
Hospital authorities said no significant damage was reported in the incident.
