- The Ford Fathom is a highly anticipated, affordable electric pickup truck that’s packed with standard features and priced at $29,945.
- The Fathom is the first to roll out on Ford’s Universal EV platform and will likely be a similar size to the compact Ford Maverick.
- Pre-orders will open in early 2027, but a separate list for “pre-order invites” is live now.
Ford’s sub-$30K electric truck has garnered lots of reactions, but demand continues to rise as more information is revealed about the future EV. While official pre-orders won’t open for another few months, anyone who’s part of the highly enthusiastic crowd can get a head start by signing up for Ford’s “pre-order invite” list.
The Fathom will enter a unique segment. There are only a handful of compact trucks on the market, and they tend to be gas-powered. Slate’s new small electric pickup often gets looped into the conversation with the Fathom due to their similar price points and small footprints, but Slate’s no-frills mission is a bit different than the Fathom, which claims to offer a multitude of standard features with a starting price of $29,945.

Plenty of Bells and Whistles
While we’re still in the dark about some of the Fathom’s most important specs, Ford has released a pretty long list of its capabilities and standard features. The Fathom will be the first to ride on Ford’s new Universal EV (UEV) platform, and the truck will have bidirectional power capability, meaning it’ll be able to send power to plug-in electronics like tools and camping gear.
Inside, a large touchscreen can run Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, or Ford’s built-in navigation powered by Apple Maps, which the automaker says will be used to improve its BlueCruise hands-free driving capabilities across all of its models. BlueCruise will also be available in every Fathom, though it’ll cost extra to activate and will likely be a subscription-based service. A digital key and a Ford app remote control come standard as well.
