The Founder of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has warned Christians against buying Christmas clothes without first paying their tithes, describing the practice as dangerous.
The cleric gave the warning while preaching during a church service in a video that has gone viral on social media.
With the Christmas season approaching, Ibiyeomie urged believers to prioritise their tithes and avoid diverting money meant for the religious obligation towards festive spending.
In the video, the pastor said, “Year is ending, don’t buy Christmas clothes when you have not paid tithe. It’s dangerous. It’s very dangerous.”
He cautioned Christians against neglecting their tithes during the festive period, warning that failure to fulfil the obligation could expose them to misfortunes.
Ibiyeomie also urged believers to pay what he described as the correct tithe, insisting that Christians should not blame the devil for problems he believes may be connected to their failure to fulfil their religious responsibilities.
Pastor recounts vehicle tyre incidents
To reinforce his message, the cleric recounted incidents in which vehicles conveying him reportedly experienced tyre bursts while being driven by people who were not paying tithes.
According to Ibiyeomie, one of the incidents occurred in Ibadan when two tyres burst during a journey.
He said he confronted the driver after discovering that the individual was not a tither.
The pastor presented the experience as an example of the consequences he associates with failure to pay tithes, using the account to urge Christians to take the practice seriously.
He maintained that believers should examine their own actions rather than automatically attribute every difficulty to the devil.
Ibiyeomie urges believers to fulfil tithe obligations
The cleric’s warning centred on the need for Christians to remain faithful to their financial commitments to the church, particularly as households prepare for Christmas celebrations.
His remarks come at a time when many families are expected to spend money on clothing, food, travel and other festive activities.
He urged believers not to allow such expenses to take precedence over the payment of tithes, stressing the importance of fulfilling their religious obligations.
The video has since circulated on social media, drawing attention to the pastor’s message about tithing and the consequences he associates with failing to pay.
Tithing is a Christian religious practice involving the allocation of a portion of income to God, commonly understood by many churches as one-tenth.
While interpretations of the practice differ among Christian denominations, Ibiyeomie’s message emphasised the importance he places on regular and accurate tithe payments.
