Halloween is nearly here, and if carving pumpkins and queuing for a haunted house sound like too much effort, there is an easier way to spend a creepy night in. Pour a drink, kill the lights and let Thailand do the scaring for you. The country turns out some of the most unsettling horror in Southeast Asia, from slow-burn ghost stories to folklore nightmares that have smashed box-office records. We have kept the all-time classics that built the genre and added the recent hits worth your time, so this is our fully up-to-date 2026 list of the best Thai horror movies. Some will keep you up all night. Others are so over the top you will end up laughing. All of them are worth a watch.
Shutter (2004)
Genre: Supernatural horror
Photographer Tun and his girlfriend Jane hit a woman with their car one night and drive away without reporting it. Soon after, strange shadows and figures start appearing in Tun’s photographs, and the past refuses to stay buried.
More than 20 years on, Shutter is still the film most people name first when Thai horror comes up. It builds its dread slowly and never lets go, and the final twist remains one of the best endings in Asian horror. Watch it before anyone spoils it for you.
The Eye (2002)
Genre: Supernatural thriller
A blind woman receives a corneal transplant and slowly regains her sight, only to realise she can now see spirits that no one else can. As the visions grow stronger, she sets out to uncover whose eyes she was given.
A Thai–Hong Kong production from the Pang brothers, The Eye leans on eerie cinematography and razor-sharp sound design rather than cheap shocks. Its elevator sequence is still one of the most talked-about moments in Asian horror, and it was popular enough to spawn a Hollywood remake starring Jessica Alba.
Alone (2007)
Genre: Psychological thriller
Formerly conjoined twins were separated after one of them died. Years later, the surviving sister returns to Thailand and begins to sense her twin’s spirit close by, dragging old guilt back to the surface.
From the team behind Shutter, Alone trades jump scares for grief, guilt and mounting tension. The effects still hold up, and the story gets under your skin precisely because it feels so personal.
4Bia (2008)
Genre: Horror anthology
Four short stories, each from a different Thai director, stitched into one film. The tones swing from genuinely creepy to funny to surprisingly moving.
The segments cover a lonely woman trading texts with the dead, a bullying prank that curdles into a nightmare, a horror-action road trip and a darkly comic finale. An anthology like this is the perfect sampler for a Halloween night in, and if you enjoy it there is a follow-up, Phobia 2, waiting.
Laddaland (2011)
Genre: Family horror drama
A father moves his family into a smart new housing estate in Chiang Mai, chasing a better life. Then the neighbours start dying, and whatever is haunting the estate begins to close in on them.
Laddaland works because its ghosts mirror very real fears: money trouble, a crumbling marriage and the terror of failing the people who depend on you. Expect to leave it feeling as heartbroken as you are spooked.
Pee Mak (2013)
Genre: Horror-comedy
A fresh spin on the Mae Nak Phra Khanong legend, Thailand’s most famous ghost story. A soldier returns from war to his wife and newborn, unaware that the two of them died while he was away.
Honestly, Pee Mak is not very scary, and that is the point. It is funny, romantic and surprisingly sweet, which makes it the ideal pick if you want to join the Halloween fun but scare easily. Mario Maurer stars as Mak with Davika Hoorne as Nak, and it remains one of the highest-grossing Thai films ever made.
The Medium (2021)
Genre: Psychological horror (mockumentary style)
Shot like a documentary in rural Isaan, The Medium follows a shaman named Nim, who believes the family spirit she serves is about to pass to her troubled niece. The inheritance does not go to plan.
The faux-documentary approach and raw performances make everything feel unnervingly real, and the chaotic final act is not easily forgotten. A Thai–South Korean collaboration, it is one of the most acclaimed modern entries on this list and a must for serious horror fans.
Death Whisperer / Tee Yod (2023)
Genre: Supernatural horror
Set in a remote village in Kanchanaburi in the 1970s, Death Whisperer follows a Thai-Chinese farming family tormented by an unseen force. When daughter Yam falls sick and turns violent, her eldest brother Yak comes home from the army to fight whatever has latched onto them.
Based on Krittanon’s hit novel and directed by Taweewat Wantha, this was the horror film that reignited Thai cinema. It became a box-office monster, was reportedly the first Thai film shot entirely for IMAX, and proved local horror could out-scare anything imported. If you have not started the franchise everyone is talking about, start here.
Death Whisperer 2 / Tee Yod 2 (2024)
Genre: Action-horror
The sequel picks up with Yak and his family still haunted by the malevolent spirit, pushing the story into bigger, bloodier and more ambitious territory while deepening the folklore behind the original curse.
Released in October 2024, Death Whisperer 2 shattered records, reportedly pulling in more than 700 million baht to rank among the highest-grossing Thai films of all time. It is louder and more spectacular than the first film, and a third chapter is already said to be on the way. Watch part one first, then settle in for this.
Ziam (2025)
Genre: Zombie action-horror
A retired Muay Thai fighter named Singh just wants a quiet life with his partner Rin, a doctor. When a sudden outbreak overruns her hospital and turns patients into the infected, Singh has to punch, kick and claw his way through to save her and a lost young boy.
Streaming on Netflix since July 2025 and directed by Kulp Kaljareuk, Ziam is proof that Thai horror does not always creep; sometimes it sprints. Mark Prin Suparat throws down in brutal, Muay Thai-flavoured action against the undead, making this the pick for anyone who likes their scares with a side of adrenaline.
Tomb Watcher (2025)
Genre: Horror drama
After wealthy businesswoman Lunthom dies under mysterious circumstances, her husband’s secret lover is drawn to the family villa, where Lunthom’s body lies preserved in a glass coffin. A clause in her will demands the couple care for her corpse for 100 days to claim their inheritance. The dead, it turns out, do not wait patiently.
A 2025 release now on Netflix from director Vathanyu Ingkawiwat, Tomb Watcher leans as much on simmering melodrama and revenge as on outright fright, with most of its chills saved for the back half. It is a slower, soapier haunting than the others here, but a fittingly macabre way to round off the night.
Still in the mood? Take the scares outside
If you would rather be scared in company than alone on the sofa, Bangkok throws plenty of Halloween parties and events through late October, so you can pair a film marathon with a night out. However you do it, these titles prove that when it comes to horror, Thailand knows exactly how to make you sleep with the lights on. Happy haunting.
