Work on a $525,000 makeover of Davidson Terrace in Joondalup is set to begin this month.
Led by the City of Joondalup, the project will introduce new greenery, wider footpaths, a pedestrian crossing, street furniture, public art and a bike lane.
The facelift is aimed at turning the busy strip into a safer and more welcoming street in the heart of Joondalup’s city centre.
Davidson Terrace connects Boas Avenue, home to the Joondalup Civic Centre, with Shenton Avenue, where the Joondalup Health Campus is located, and is lined with several small businesses.
After being announced early last year, the final design for the revamp was developed in collaboration with a community project group, drawing on feedback from local residents and businesses.
Mayor Daniel Kingston said the project demonstrated the value of working with the community to improve public spaces.
“Davidson Terrace is an important part of our city centre and this project is all about creating a street that is greener, safer, more accessible and ultimately a more enjoyable place for people to spend time,” Mr Kingston said.
“What makes this project particularly exciting is that the ideas have come directly from the people who live, work and do business in the area.
“We’ve listened to what our community wants from Davidson Terrace and now we’re looking forward to seeing that shared vision become a reality.
“A thriving city centre depends on great public spaces and strong local businesses, and this project will help create an even more inviting destination for our community and visitors to enjoy.”
The city received a $75,000 grant for the project through Streets Alive, a community led funding program delivered by Doing Co. in partnership with Main Roads WA and WALGA.
Works will be delivered in stages, beginning with civil works, followed by landscaping.
Road closures and temporary changes to traffic conditions, parking and pedestrian access will be required during construction.
The project is expected to be completed in early December.
