Five months after the break-in at State House, a similar incident has occurred at Eros Airport, where a man (25) described as an alleged mentally challenged patient, reportedly broke into the premises and gained access to the VIP terminal.
Police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi confirmed that the suspect, Modestus Didalelwa, reported to be a mental out-patient on medication and under the care of parents, unlawfully, walked into the Eros Airport premises on 12 October 2026.
He was apprehended by members on duty.
Court documents indicate that Didalelwa appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on 14 October 2026. He was charged with one count of trespassing in contravention of the Trespass Ordinance Act 20 of 1985.
It is alleged that upon 12 October 2026, the accused unlawfully entered a building at the Eros Airport terminal building without permission.
Didalelwa’s mother told the court that her son has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and has been on medication since 2019.
Some of the symptoms the accused exhibits include talking to himself, walking in circles, and restlessness.
She added that he also has delusions that he is a police officer.
The matter was remanded to 07 April 2027 for further investigations and mental observation.
He was released in the care of his guardian.
While further investigations are underway to establish how Didalelwa entered, Member of Parliament Job Amupanda had something to say on the matter.
Amupanda stated that the man passed through the entrance gate, made his way through the various security gates and eventually entered a lounge belonging to the State, where he sat down, slept and helped himself to the food.
The man was allegedly found sitting in the lounge. He allegedly said he was there looking for a job, Amupanda alleged.
“This is a serious security breach again of another guy,” he added.
