The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced on Monday that an oil tanker was attacked by a drone near Oman.
The authority stated that it received a report of an incident involving an oil tanker near the port of Sohar in Oman.
The authority indicated that the tanker sustained damage as a result of the drone attack, adding that local authorities are assisting in the evacuation of the crew and assessing the damage. It confirmed that the environmental impact is currently unknown.
This incident comes amid an escalating wave of attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, with the UKMTO documenting several incidents since the beginning of October.
The Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas supplies passed before the war, remains a major flashpoint in the confrontation between Iran and the United States.
