The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three people, including Munitions India Limited Executive Director Anil Kumar, in an alleged bribery case involving government contracts and private vendors.
The arrests were made on October 13, 2026, a day after the agency registered a case on October 12. The other two accused are Ashish Kansal, CEO and director/promoter of private company SMPP Limited, and B. Harshavardhan, Anil Kumar's brother.
According to the CBI, Anil Kumar, who is posted in Pune, allegedly colluded with private contractors and vendors to demand and accept bribes in exchange for extending undue benefits in official matters.
During searches at Anil Kumar's premises in Pune, the agency recovered Rs 1.73 crore in cash. Searches were also conducted at locations in Mysuru, Bengaluru and Delhi, where investigators recovered around Rs 50 lakh in cash and documents linked to the case.
The CBI is examining the evidence collected during the searches as part of its ongoing investigation. The allegations against the accused are yet to be established in court.
CBI Steps Up Probe into Alleged Corruption in Punjab Departments
In a separate development, the CBI has intensified its investigation into alleged corruption involving postings, transfers and policy decisions across 15 key departments of the Punjab government.
The agency has sought confidential files, official notes and other documents from the departments as part of the inquiry. The investigation is being conducted in accordance with directions issued by the High Court, which has set December 4, 2026, as the deadline for submitting the report.
On October 14, the Punjab government's Personnel Department directed the concerned departments to provide the required records. The departments under scrutiny include Home, Revenue, Health, Food and Civil Supplies, and Local Government, among others.
Special Secretary Gautam Jain has been appointed as the nodal officer to coordinate the process.
The CBI has also sought records relating to appointments and transfers involving former Chief Minister's Officer on Special Duty Rajbir Ghuman and other individuals associated with the Chief Minister's Office.
Other documents sought by the agency concern the foodgrain transportation policy, the SAP licence of Verka, recruitment in the town planning department, housing projects in Mohali and Zirakpur, and approvals granted by the Pollution Control Board.
The investigation aims to determine whether irregularities or corruption influenced government postings, transfers, and policy decisions. Further details are awaited as the agency examines the records.
