VAST Data, a U.S. developer of artificial intelligence operating systems, said on the 13th that it has received a strategic investment from Hyundai Motor and Kia.
The company's flagship product, VAST AI OS, combines data, core computing services and AI agent execution into a single platform. The investment followed several years in which 42dot, the self-driving technology affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group, which includes Hyundai Motor (005380) and Kia (000270), used the VAST AI OS platform for research and development work. By using VAST AI OS, 42dot cut sensor and video data by a ratio of 2 to 1.
With the investment, Hyundai Motor and Kia plan to consolidate their overall AI development structure — covering advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), large language models (LLMs) and robotics — into a single data architecture and to use VAST Data's products for it. The two automakers expect that expanding their collaboration with VAST Data will improve the efficiency of collecting and processing the large volumes of data involved in autonomous driving.
