Pressure in trading does not always come after a loss.
For Exness Team Pro trader Nathan Halaba, some of the most difficult moments can come during a profitable streak. “Pressure arises not only when I’m losing. Sometimes it’s higher when things are going well, because that’s when I start thinking about protecting what I’ve built,” he explains.
Success creates a different kind of pressure. After several good decisions, the next trade can start to feel more important because there is now something to protect.
The concern is no longer just about losing on a single position. It is about not letting one poor decision undo the progress you’ve already achieved.
Nathan has learned that this is exactly when discipline matters most. The market hasn’t changed simply because the previous trades worked. The next decision still needs to meet the same standards as the first.
Controlled decisions versus emotional reactions
Nathan separates controlled trading from emotional trading by relying on clear rules.
Before entering the market, he looks for a setup that fits his strategy and offers enough conviction to justify the risk. The goal is not to stay active simply because recent trades have gone well. It is to keep making decisions through the same process.
That becomes more difficult when confidence turns into overconfidence.
A profitable streak can create the feeling that a trader is reading the market especially well. This can make it tempting to increase exposure, relax established rules, or take a setup that would normally be ignored.
Nathan’s response is to refocus on high-probability decisions and protecting capital. For him, preserving capital matters more than proving that a successful streak can continue. A good run does not change the rules. If anything, it makes following them even more important.
Nathan’s approach depends on the risk before pressure begins. Once a stop loss and invalidation level are set, the next challenge is staying objective when the position is under pressure but not yet invalidated.
The same discipline applies to execution. He’s seen how slippage or a delayed order can weaken confidence in a trading system, even when the original analysis is sound. “If an order is executed at a worse price than planned, a trader may risk more than intended; everything was calculated using the original entry size,” Nathan explains.
For Nathan, favorable execution isn’t about speed for its own sake. It’s about reducting the uncertainty between the decision he makes and the position he opens. From his perspective as an Exness Team Pro trader, execution that remains close to the planned entry allows the trader to stay focused on the setup and apply the risk parameters already defined.
This doesn’t replace Nathan’s own rules or remove the risks of trading. But it supports the environment in which the rules are applied.
Knowing when to pause
One of the hardest decisions in trading can be deciding to do nothing.
Fast-moving markets can create the feeling that action is necessary simply because prices are changing quickly. Nathan takes a different view. If the conditions do not make sense, staying out can be a valid decision. “When I step away from the chart, I’m not avoiding the market. I’m protecting the next decision from the emotion of the previous one,” he says.
This becomes especially important when volatility increases, or price behavior is difficult to read. Instead of forcing a setup in an unclear market, Nathan is prepared to step away. That choice protects more than capital. It also helps protect the quality of the next decision.
The longer a trader stays focused on a difficult market, the easier it can become to confuse activity with opportunity. One move leads to another, and the desire to participate can gradually overtake the original strategy.
Nathan sees the ability to pause as part of professional discipline. Sometimes control means acting with confidence. At other times, it means choosing not to act at all.
Waiting when markets move fast
Nathan applies the same principle when markets react sharply to major events.
He prefers not to chase the first move. “The first move after news is not always the trade. Sometimes it’s just the market showing emotion before it shows direction.”
The initial reaction can be fast, emotional, and difficult to interpret. Prices may move sharply before a clear market direction emerges, so entering on a significant move alone can mean acting before enough information is available.
Nathan would rather wait.
He watches how the market reacts after that first wave and looks for conditions to become clearer before considering a position. That waiting period gives him time to separate a genuine opportunity from market noise.
For Nathan, clearer conditions are not only about identifying the likely direction of the markets. “I also consider whether the cost of entry still fits my strategy.” Spreads often widen around high-impact news, so a move that initially looks tradable may no longer be worth taking.
Nathan therefore treat spread behavior as part of the decision rather than simply a background cost. This reflects Exness’ broader view that favorable trading conditions matter most when markets are under pressure. In fast-moving markets, executable spreads can determining whether a setup stil makes sense once the cost of entry is considered.
That distinction matters because urgency can quickly weaken a trader’s process. A sudden move can create the feeling that an opportunity is disappearing, encouraging traders to enter first and think later.
Nathan approaches it in the opposite order.
Understand first. Act second.
Pressure exposes weaknesses
Less experienced traders may only discover their psychological weaknesses when market conditions become difficult.
Nathan sees this as a problem because volatility can magnify existing habits. Impatience can turn into chasing. Confidence can become overconfidence. Frustration may lead to revenge trading, while fear of missing out can push a trader into setups they would normally reject.
By the time those reactions appear in a trading decision, the weakness is already influencing the process.
That is why Nathan believes traders need to understand their own behavior before the pressure arrives. Clear rules can help, along with knowing what a valid setup looks like, defining acceptable risk, and recognizing when it is time to step away.
The aim is not to remove emotion. Trading involves uncertainty, and emotion is a natural part of responding to it.
The goal is to recognize when emotion starts to change the process.
Protecting the process
Nathan’s experience has changed what control means to him.
It is not about controlling whether the market moves up or down. It is also not about protecting every winning streak or avoiding every loss. Those outcomes are never fully in the trader’s hands.
What can be controlled is the process behind each decision. A setup can be evaluated, risk can be defined, and a trader can choose when to participate and when to stay out. When the market becomes unclear, stepping away can prevent pressure from influencing the next trade.
“I don’t measure discipline by whether one trade works. I measure it by whether I followed the same process when the pressure changed.” That is where Nathan places his attention.
Success can create pressure. Losing can create pressure. Volatility can create pressure. In each case, the principle remains the same: protect the process before trying to control the outcome.
