SEOUL: BLACKPINK star Jennie has revealed that she draws inspiration from everything around her, letting real-life experiences, art, and culture shape her work instead of relying on a single concept.
Speaking to Interview magazine, the 30-year-old singer reflected on the creative ideas behind her solo music and her drive to keep evolving.
"I think I'm always collecting inspiration from what's around me, whether it's film, fashion, art, music, places I've been, or something I've read," she said.
Jennie explained that ideas usually come to her naturally, staying in her mind until they connect with what she wants to express.
For her 2025 debut solo album, Ruby, William Shakespeare's play As You Like It became one of the key inspirations that helped build the album's mood and world.
"I like letting those influences come in naturally rather than deciding what the reference has to be from the beginning," she said.
The singer added that she is becoming more confident in trusting her instincts, especially as she explores different musical styles and emotions on tracks such as FALLEN ANGEL and Less Than a Lover.
She described the songs as a chance to show a softer, more vulnerable side without overexplaining the feelings behind them.
Jennie also shared her desire to step into projects beyond music, staying open to fresh opportunities that feel natural and exciting.
"I feel like there are still so many sounds, ideas, and sides of myself that I haven't explored yet," she said.
"I want to give myself the space to be curious, try new things, and let the next chapter take shape in its own way," she added, signaling that she has no fixed blueprint for her career moving forward.
Having debuted with BLACKPINK in 2016, Jennie has firmly established herself as a standout solo artiste with Ruby, alongside her work in acting and fashion.
Her latest comments highlight a clear desire to keep pushing her boundaries rather than being boxed into one specific sound or identity.
