The former prime minister sharply criticized the TISZA government’s 2027 budget, arguing that its economic policy changes threaten both jobs and support for families. Viktor Orbán also criticized the delay in the next installment of the 14th-month pension and warned that, in his view, everyone will ultimately lose out, Világgazdaság reported.
“The 2027 budget is a left-wing budget. It brings an end to the era of the work-based economy,” Viktor Orbán wrote on Facebook on Tuesday. The FIDESZ chairman predicted the end of full employment and the return of unemployment. He also stated that the proposed changes would place a heavy burden on businesses.
He also criticized the government’s approach to family support and homeownership. Special emphasis was placed on the issue of the 14th-month pension that the FIDESZ government has announced in its last year. Viktor Orbán called this a fitting recognition of a lifetime of work and said that the TISZA government will not pay out the next installment of the benefit. He was more measured in his comments on utility rate cuts: in his view, this measure could remain in place.
Taken together, this is a misguided, left-wing economic policy. And as always, it will end badly. In the end, everyone will lose out,”
said Viktor Orbán.
Prime Minister Péter Magyar outlined the main objectives of the 2027 budget in a speech before the agenda in the National Assembly on Monday. He announced that
the government would send the draft to the Budget Council later this week and submit it to the National Assembly at the end of October.
Following Péter Magyar’s speech, which lasted more than two hours, the government continued on Tuesday to present the 2027 budget to the Hungarian public. This time, Péter Magyar appeared before the public alongside Finance Minister András Kármán at a joint press conference.
The European Commission president will deliver a speech in Budapest on October 23. Continue reading
