The government has launched a landmark strategy to better recognise female veterans’ service and improve policy and support during and after service.
The departments of Veterans’ Affairs and Defence have developed a gender-responsive strategy to guide policies and programs for former servicewomen.
The 34-page strategy follows extensive consultation and outlines the need for increased representation and access to veterans’ services designed for women, with a particular focus on gender-specific health improvements and employment and transition support.
Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel Matt Keogh said one in five serving members of the ADF were now women, with research showing the challenges facing this group after they left service were unique.
