An IndiGo flight scheduled to operate from Delhi to Chennai received a bomb threat before take-off on Friday, prompting the aircraft to return to the bay at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). The threat was later declared a hoax after the airline completed the required Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
The flight, identified as 6E 6091, had pushed back and was preparing for take-off when the crew traced the threat message. Sources aware of the development said the aircraft's take-off was cancelled as per SOP and the plane was taken back to the bay.
Another source confirmed the development to India Today.
According to the sources, a "caution note" was found in the aircraft's rear lavatory. The note cautioned against proceeding with the journey to Chennai.
The IndiGo flight was scheduled to take off from IGI at 3.15 pm. Following the discovery of the note, the aircraft returned to the bay for the prescribed safety procedures.
After completing the SOP, officials declared the threat message a hoax. Flight 6E 6091 subsequently took off at around 5 pm and successfully landed in Chennai at approximately 7.40 pm on Friday.
