Pakistan received its second liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from Qatar on October 21, with the shipment docking at the Pakistan GasPort terminal, according to the provided details.
The first Qatari LNG cargo of October arrived at Port Qasim on October 13. This means Pakistan received only two LNG cargoes from Qatar during the month, compared with eight cargoes in October last year.
Pakistan’s LNG imports have also declined significantly since March. The country imported only 20 LNG cargoes during this period, compared with 72 cargoes received over the same period last year, according to a report.
The decline in LNG arrivals has also affected electricity generation from gas. Pakistan recorded a 56% decrease in electricity generation from LNG during September.
The reduced number of LNG cargoes and the fall in gas-based power generation indicate a significant decline in the country’s LNG imports compared with the previous year.
