Almost one in 11 babies born in Czechia last year did not have Czech citizenship, up from one in 30 a decade ago, according to the Czech Statistics Office. The number nearly doubled over the past ten years, reaching more than 7,200 in 2025.
In Prague, foreign nationals accounted for 23 percent of newborns last year, almost one in four. Across the country, Ukrainian children made up around 58 percent of all babies born with foreign citizenship, followed by Slovak and Vietnamese nationals.
The figures come as the overall number of births in Czechia continues to fall. Around 77,600 children were born last year, the lowest number since records began in 1785. The statistics office also found that almost 13 percent of all newborns had at least one parent who was a foreign national.
