The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has said it is intensifying efforts to ensure that petroleum products sold in Ghana meet required quality standards, with monitoring covering the entire supply chain.
Chief Executive Officer of the NPA, Edudzi Tameklo, said beyond regulation, the Authority has a mandate to provide quality service to the public.
Speaking on the sidelines of a working visit by the Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday, October 21, Tameklo said the NPA’s mandate extends beyond regulating the petroleum downstream sector to include public service and quality assurance.
“Our is a continuous process of ensuring that we improve on the issues of quality for consumers because ultimately the consumer is the person at the heart of what we do.
"The NPA is to provide a certain public service so it is not just regulation but to ensure that our people ultimately benefit from the ends of regulation and one of that is to do quality assurance and it is a continuous process,” he stated.
He noted that the Authority has teams monitoring the quality of petroleum products at import points, refineries, depots and retail outlets across the country.
He said the Authority had also established a toll-free line to enable consumers to report concerns about the quality of petroleum products and support prompt responses to complaints.
"We have developed what we call toll free numbers that allow us at all times to get consumers anytime they reached out to us," he noted.
The measures are intended to help safeguard consumers by ensuring that petroleum products on the Ghanaian market meet the required standards and that reported quality concerns receive attention.
