Leeds United Women face a tough assignment on Sunday as they travel to Kellamergh Park to take on second-placed AFC Fylde Women in the FA Women’s National League Division One North.
The Whites head into the fixture in excellent form, having made it 10 wins from 10 games last weekend with victory over Norton & Stockton Ancients at the BD Community Stadium.
Amy Woodruff opened the scoring after 13 minutes, showing great persistence to lob a defender before racing through to beat the goalkeeper to a loose ball.
Drew Greene then doubled United’s advantage, finishing off a superb team move after her twin sister Darcie had produced an unstoppable run down the left flank before squaring.
The victory followed an emphatic win over Stockton Town Ladies in the Women’s FA Cup, securing United a home tie against Rotherham United in the first round proper.
The weekend before, Wood’s side also recorded a 4-1 victory in the FA WNL Cup group stages, completing a perfect September and earning the Whites boss a nomination for the division’s Manager of the Month award. United will face Liverpool Feds in the next round on Sunday 1 November.
Sunday’s hosts, meanwhile, have enjoyed an impressive start to life following their promotion from the North West Women’s Regional League last season. Fylde have dropped points just once in the league this term, drawing 1-1 away at Norton & Stockton Ancients.
The two sides are no strangers, having met twice during the 2024/25 campaign. Both encounters saw the away team claim all three points, with Leeds recording a 3-1 victory in August before Fylde responded with a 2-0 win in December.
With both teams enjoying strong starts, victory in the Whites' biggest test so far this campaign would begin to establish a gap at the top of the table.
Action from Kellamergh Park gets underway at 2pm.
The view from inside the camp:
Ahead of the game, Whites winger Drew Greene said: "We are really looking forward to the game on Sunday. Every week we prepare in training for our opponents on a Sunday and look at the areas we did well previously, and also where we can improve.
"Every week is the next biggest game no matter who it’s against."
