YONGIN — The city of Yongin said on the 14th that Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions division and the Gyeonggi branch of the Community Chest of Korea had provided three eco-friendly vehicles to three local social welfare organizations.
The handover ceremony was held the same day at the reception room of Yongin City Hall. Attendees included Yongin Mayor Lee Sang-il, Kim Hyo-jin, secretary general of the Community Chest of Korea's Gyeonggi branch, Ha Heon-jae, an executive at Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions division, and officials from the recipient organizations.
The three recipients were the Yongin Council on Social Welfare, the Baegam Community Child Center and the Hannuri Community Child Center. The vehicles will be used to transport welfare recipients, deliver supplies and provide on-site services.
The project was launched to improve mobility at welfare facilities and to expand the use of eco-friendly vehicles, contributing to better air quality.
"Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions division signed an agreement with Yongin during Mayor Lee's current term and has continued its sharing efforts for local welfare facilities," Lee said. "To date, 20 eco-friendly vehicles have been provided to social welfare organizations."
"I thank the Samsung Electronics employees and the officials at the Community Chest of Korea's Gyeonggi branch who are practicing good deeds for the community," he added. "I hope the donated vehicles will be put to meaningful use in the welfare field."
The eco-friendly vehicle program is funded by donations from the "Walking for Love" campaign, in which employees of Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions division take part voluntarily. The donations are used to purchase vehicles for social welfare organizations selected through an open application process.
"The employees' sharing is helping strengthen the service capacity of welfare organizations in Yongin," Kim said. "We will work to ensure that donations translate into practical support on the ground."
