At least 34 adults have been charged so far this year with allowing children to ride illegal electric scooters, according to documents seen by the newspaper.
In most cases, the adults are parents who have bought models that are too fast and powerful for children under the age of 15. In several cases, the scooters have reached speeds of between 50 and 60 kilometres per hour.
Sweden has no age limit for riding electric scooters. However, a number of other restrictions apply.
If a scooter can travel faster than 20 kilometres per hour or has an output of more than 250 watts, it is classified as a motor vehicle and is therefore not an electric scooter.
