Kalen DeBoer made it clear it was next man up Saturday after Alabama nickelback Red Morgan was enjected for targeting in the first half of the Crimson Tide’s game with Texas A&M.
“We have to move some guys around,” DeBoer told ABC at halftime with the game tied at 17. “Chuck McDonald will wind up playing. I know he has been playing some corner. That’s a position he has been used to playing. Next man up.”
Morgan was flagged for targeting after hitting Aggie quarterback Marcel Reed. The officials called a roughing the passer penalty with targeting, which was upheld after a review.
“All the guys have to continue to scrap,” DeBoer told the Crimson Tide Sports Network. “We have different guys in different places. They are going to keep fighting. It’s tied game. We knew it was going to be a four-quarter game.”
Cornerback Zabien Brown already was ruled out after a leg injury he sustained last Saturday during Alabama’s loss to Tennessee. Morgan’s regular backup, Dre Kirkpatrick Jr., was suspended for Saturday’s game.
Meanwhile, McDonald, a sophomore, has contributed on defense and special teams throughout the 2026 season, notching eight tackles entering Saturday’s matchup.
