Three tourists drown and two went missing after being swept away by currents while bathing at Himchari beach in Cox's Bazar on today (21 October).
The incident occurred around 5:30pm near the museum adjacent to Himchari Marina Resort, said SI Soleman, in-charge of the Himchari police outpost.
Several tourists had entered the sea for a swim when they were swept away by the current. Bystanders rescued four people, but three died at the scene, while another was rescued in critical condition and taken to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, the police official said.
The bodies of the deceased were kept at the police outpost. The identities of the dead and missing tourists had not been confirmed at the time of reporting.
Lifeguards and the Fire Service have launched a search for the missing tourists. Police said two people were missing, though the number could be higher.
