KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd (HLIB) has appointed former Bursa Malaysia Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Umar Swift as its new group managing director and chief executive officer, effective Jan 1, 2027.
Hong Leong Capital Bhd, HLIB's parent company, said Umar will succeed Lee Jim Leng, who is retiring after more than 17 years at the helm of the investment bank.
Lee has served as HLIB's group managing director and chief executive officer since 2009, overseeing its growth across capital markets, brokerage and advisory services.
Hong Leong Capital chairman Tan Kong Khoon thanked Lee for her leadership and contributions to HLIB and Malaysia's investment banking industry.
"Under her stewardship, HLIB has achieved significant milestones and built a resilient foundation for the future. We wish her a very well-deserved, happy, and fulfilling retirement," he said.
Umar brings extensive experience across banking, insurance and capital markets.
He previously served as Bursa Malaysia's chief executive officer and MAA Group Bhd's chief executive officer and group managing director.
He also held the position of head of Enterprise Financial Services Group at Malayan Banking Bhd.
Tan said Umar's experience in leading financial institutions and his understanding of Malaysia's capital markets would support HLIB's next phase of growth.
"We are pleased to welcome Umar to HLIB. His understanding of Malaysia's capital markets and experience in leading financial institutions will be valuable as we build on the strong foundation Jim Leng and the team have established.
"We look forward to working with him and our colleagues at HLIB to deepen client relationships, grow the business and support our clients' evolving financing and investment needs," he said.
