Ohio State Preparing for Worst-Case Scenario With Star QB Julian Sayin

The Ohio State Buckeyes seemed to be on track to make the College Football Playoff again this season, but they hit a major speed bump with star quarterback Julian Sayin getting injured in Saturday’s 19-15 win over No. 6 Indiana.

The junior signal-caller had been one of the more efficient QBs in the country this season, completing 68.2% of his passes for 2,007 yards, 19 touchdowns, and four interceptions through six games.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day told reporters he expected Sayin to miss a significant period of time with the injury to his right throwing arm and shoulder.

Day also dropped a bombshell that the Buckeyes are planning for Sayin to miss the rest of the season and the College Football Playoff.

“First off, we’re not going to put any timeline on his recovery, but he is out indefinitely," Day stated. "What we’re trying to do is give Julian and his family the space and privacy to go through this process. But based on the nature of the injury, we are putting together a plan for him not being available for the regular season, and also him not being available for the postseason.

“And so, based on that, and if he’s not able to return this fall, we’re putting a plan together for that as well. That’s really the update I have right now, and again, (I don’t want to discuss too much detail) out of respect for he and his family.”

With Sayin sidelined indefinitely, Ohio State will likely turn to Luke Fahey. The freshman has appeared in three games this season, completing 9 of 13 passes for 203 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Ohio State also has former five-star QB Tavien St. Clair on the roster as well. The sophomore signal-caller has played minimally this year, completing 5 of 7 passes for 52 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
