The three workers of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) in Ibadan, kidnapped last week by gunmen have regained their freedom.
It was learnt that the abducted CRIN workers, identified as Eunice Babalola, Kehinde Gbalajobi and Nelson were released by the gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday after allegedly collecting ransom.
Sources said the abductors initially demanded N40 million payment on each of the abducted workers before allegedly reducing it to N50 million for all the three workers after negotiations.
The abducted workers, sources said, were located in a bush by the security operatives said to be trailing the suspected kidnappers.
When contacted, the Oyo state Police command Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that the 3 CRIN workers have regained their freedom
He said the released CRIN workers are being debriefed by the police and that efforts are ongoing by the command to bring the culprits to book.
DSP Ayanlade added that the Oyo state Police command “is not aware” of any ransom payment to the kidnappers to secure the release of the 3 persons.
“Our reaction is that the 3 CRIN workers have been released. They are being debriefed by the police. Efforts are ongoing by the command to arrest those involved in the kidnapping,” he said.
