It’s the start of the 2026-27 NBA Season, and San Antonio Spurs fans are starting to get worried. They are currently facing off against their new rivals, the Oklahoma City Thunder. What makes fans worried isn’t exactly the score, but the performance of their biggest weapon. Victor Wembanyama is expected to take a big leap after a breakout sophomore season, but his third year in the league is off to a rough start.
At halftime, Wembanyama has just eight points. What’s even more brutal is that Wembanyama did not make a single field goal in the first half, missing all seven of his attempts from the field. He’s also a -11 when he’s on the floor, an uncharacteristic performance from the Spurs’ star center.

This development has brought a ton of stress among Spurs fans, who were expecting big things from Wembanyama this season. One fan pointed out that the Thunder might have figured out how to defend the center, and that his unwillingness to punish OKC is hurting the team.
“Really don’t see what Victor Wembanyama did to improve his offensive game in the offseason. He seems more guardable as people adjust to what he can do and is not yet willing to do with the ball,” the fan noted.
A French fan expressed frustration about how the Spurs were utilizing Wembanyama. His comment, translated to English, reads, “Wemby’s performance with the WCF was monstrous, he was putting up posters on you, dunks, insane alley-oops, so why’d we go back to that old offensive system making him play like he’s a point guard???”
Another fan simply said that Wembanyama needed to show that he’s a star in the second half. “Victor Wembanyama has to be better. That was a flat out disgusting half.”
At the time of writing, the Thunder lead the Spurs 80-70 midway through the third quarter.
