KUALA LUMPUR: CelcomDigi Bhd has paid RM381.75 million for spectrum assignments in the 2600MHz and 900MHz frequency bands to strengthen network capacity and coverage.
Its unit, CelcomDigi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (CDTel), made the full payment today after accepting the terms and conditions in the notice of award issued by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
The award covers 2x20MHz in the 2600MHz band for four years and 2x5MHz in the 900MHz band for five years.
The notice followed the issuance of an Application Information Package on Aug 14.
CelcomDigi said the additional spectrum would improve capital expenditure efficiency while enhancing network capacity and service quality to meet growing customer demand.
"The assignment enables a contiguous 2x40MHz spectrum holding in the 2600MHz spectrum frequency band and improves the company's spectrum position in the 900MHz spectrum frequency band to support wider and deeper coverage across the country," it said in a statement.
The additional 2600MHz spectrum will expand CelcomDigi's contiguous spectrum holding in the band, while the 900MHz allocation is expected to strengthen coverage across the country.
CelcomDigi shares closed six sen, or 2.39 per cent, higher at RM2.57 today, giving the telecommunications group a market capitalisation of RM30.15 billion.
