Uzbekistan’s First Lady Ziroat Mirziyoyeva has received an award presented by World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in recognition of her contribution to improving healthcare for children with cancer and promoting the right to a healthy life, according to UzA.
The award was presented during the international summit “World Summit on Investing in Children’s Well-being: a Path to Sustainable and Equitable Development for Future Generations” and the II International Congress on Pediatric Oncology and Hematology.
“Respected First Lady, you have become a true global champion for children—especially those battling cancer—and a staunch defender of every child’s right to education and a healthy life,” Ghebreyesus said.
Established in 2019, the award recognizes leadership and achievements that have produced tangible results in public health.
Previous recipients have included heads of state, representatives of international organizations, Nobel laureates, scientists and public figures. They were honored for contributions to global immunization, the fight against infectious diseases, expanded access to healthcare and international cooperation in the health sector.
On October 21, Ziroat Mirziyoyeva was appointed chair of a newly established global network supporting children with serious and life-threatening illnesses, including cancer. She will serve a two-year term leading the initiative, which brings together first ladies and spouses of heads of state to strengthen international cooperation and improve support for affected children and their families.
