Ekhaya FC beat Standard Bank Blue Eagles 2-1 at Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe, Blantyre, on Friday, with John Mchema scoring twice to move his side up to sixth in the FDH Bank Premiership.

Mchema opened the scoring in the 20th minute and added his second in the 70th, finishing from a low cross by Samuel Rukura.
Pius Saka had equalised for Blue Eagles in the 61st minute, capitalising on a defensive error, but Ekhaya held on.
Ekhaya coach Fundi Akidu praised his players for their discipline.
“This was a tough encounter. But I am satisfied with the team’s ability to collect all three points,” he said.
“We advised the players to remain patient and concentrate on frustrating Eagles’ attacking efforts rather than rushing their approach.”
Blue Eagles, who had been pushing for the top of the table, drop to third on 34 points from 18 matches. It is their second successive defeat, following a 2-0 loss to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
Eagles coach Deklerk Msakakuona said the side had created chances but failed to convert them.
“What let us down was failure to convert opportunities that could have changed the outcome,” he said. “Consecutive defeats have affected our morale.”
Bullets could extend their lead at the top later on Saturday when they face Civil Service United at the same venue.
