There are countless reasons why multi-gen groups can’t get enough of sun-soaked holidays and for some, escaping to a tropical paradise and checking in to one of the best family-friendly hotels in Mauritius is one of them. Located off the East Coast of Africa, it's home to coral reefs teeming with rainbow-coloured fish, bath-warm turquoise seas, powdery sandy beaches, and the a rich, verdant jungle. What's more? Direct flights from the UK are frequent – a plus point when travelling with children. The island offers plenty for those who want to get out and about, such as hikes in nature reserves, island-hopping and whale watching.
When it comes to hotels, there’s a scattering of hideaways that embrace families with open arms, with sweeping suites that can sleep bigger broods and private villas that suit larger groups. The island is renowned for its array of brilliant kids’ clubs, where little ones will be racing off for crab hunts and pool games, some with parent-pleasing baby crèches and action-packed agendas that will even see teens get stuck into golf lessons and wind-surfing. Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita
This 16-year-old family resort has been devised to provide something for everyone. Near a teens room for over-tens, with its own cinema, table football, ping-pong and computer games, lies the well-equipped and staffed kids' club, for four to nine-year-olds, with an amphitheatre for shows, a paddling pool, toy room and bakery. A shaded kids’ table is set up on the beachside restaurant during breakfast and lunch, for parents who want peace; bicycles are given to every guest, enabling children the chance to go off exploring the safe, gated estate; and beach games are arranged daily. Children under-12 stay free if they sleep in their parents’ room and under fours get complimentary dining from the kids’ menu. A three-lane lap pool, gym and tennis courts are located in tropical gardens for those who fancy working out in peace, away from the sun-lovers and families populating the main pool. There are no lifeguards on the beach (staff explained, with razor clams, urchins and lionfish in the water, swimming was “too dangerous”) so, while an accompanied snorkelling trip is on offer with a marine biologist to try to spot a small population of seahorses off the Quiet Beach, exploring the waters alongside the hotel’s beaches is not encouraged. A children’s menu is available at all restaurants and in-room. Lisa Grainger

Price: From about £900 per night.

One&Only Le Saint Géran
Perched on the peninsula it has occupied since 1975, Le Saint Géran (which became part of the One&Only family in 2002) has always been snazzy but underwent a multimillion-pound renovation in 2017 and with further enhancements in 2024, it re-emerged brighter, slicker and breezier than ever. Well-heeled families adore this place and who can blame them with over a mile of ice-cream soft sandy shores and luscious gardens, it feels like a very exclusive hideaway for those who want their beach holidays washed down with plenty of bells and whistles. With three pools, a lagoon-side boathouse and one of the island’s best kids’ and teens’ clubs (ages 3-17) offering everything from yoga and creative writing workshops to canyoning at Tamarin Falls, there’s ample to keep the team happy.
Families snooze under lapis cabana canopies by day on the main beach; the hidden bay on the other side provides wind-free waters for children and paddle boarders – just mind the enthusiastic water skiers – or kayak through the hotel’s mangroves in search of stingrays and ‘jumping’ fish, before retreating to the gleaming spa with its own kids’ treatment menu. There’s no bad room here but for a two-bedroom blow-the-budget option, Villa One comes with a private beach, private chef and private entrance.
Address: One&Only Le Saint Géran, Pointe de Flacq 41518, Mauritius
Price: From about £700 per night.

Maradiva Resort
All is swinging-on-a-hammock beachside bliss. As the only family-owned all-villa hotel on the island, Maradiva is something special. Spread over a generous 27 acres of lush tropical gardens and set on a peaceful stretch of luminous sandy beach with a backdrop of the soaring Tamarin Mountain, this place feels remote in the best possible way. It’s renovation-fresh, having undergone a whopping £21m facelift and reopening in November 2023; it’s looking mightier than ever but still retains an air of quiet luxury about it. Families are utterly embraced here, and for little ones, there’s a fun kids’ club (ages 3-12) while grown-ups tuck themselves away in the roomy pool villas hidden behind gardens of Aran lilies and frangipani. Days here are easy with snorkelling trips across the reef tide to spot dancing damselfish or a restorative massage in the pagoda-style spa pavilions, Come nightfall, Teppanyaki serves up shanghai noodles flame-cooked in front of diners’ eyes – a delight for younger guests. Some resorts can be overkill with the number of daily activities, distractions and group fun on offer, but Maradiva proves that sometimes less is indeed more. Best of all, if you do want to dip your toe into the local scene, bustling Flic en Flac is only a short taxi ride away – or a 30-minute stroll along the beach.

LUX* Belle Mare
It’s a dilemma choosing a holiday to suit the whole brood. Soft play or flopping on a beach? Michelin-worthy restaurants or child-high food stations? LUX* Belle Mare has the lot. With swanked-up interiors by Mauritian designer Jean-Marc Tang, this classy family number sits on the luminous white sandy shores of Belle Mare Plage on Mauritius’ breezy east coast. They’ll love frolicking in that huge swimming pool or spotting rainbow-coloured fish in the shallows, gorging on scoops from the ICI ice cream bar and playing in the tot-friendly lagoon. It’s the PLAY kids’ club that’s a winner, though, catering for children from three years old, with an indoor slide, interactive floor games and daily activities including gardening, yoga and a swimming clinic, with a dedicated Studio 17 club for tweens and teens. The buffet will keep all the campers happy – from the freshest fruits at breakfast to the noodle chefs whipping up chilli-flecked peaks and the small people-approved options-a-plenty. But the other restaurants stand out too; contemporary Indian gem Amari by Vineet is shout-about-it-good, while Duck Laundry’s sultry Honk Kong-inspired cuisine will have you rolling back to your villa.

Price: From about £450 per night.

Sugar Beach Resort
Sugar Beach Resort is one of the most child-friendly hotels in Mauritius, and boredom is an impossibility. There are two large main pools, including a designated quiet zone for adults, while the children’s area has a walk-in side. Guests can learn martial arts; participate in perfume-making workshops, join island treasure hunts by boat; or play a few rounds of Crazy croquet. At the Glass Studio handcrafted souvenirs can be fashioned from the hotel’s recycled glass bottles. After dark, guests supplied with personalised Bluetooth headphones gather on the Manor House lawn for open-air cinema viewings of Hollywood classics or the latest releases. The Kids Club and Teens Club have a huge range of activities, including barbecues and campfire dinners. Professional nannies can be hired to look after young children who aren’t yet potty-trained.
The 238 guest rooms and suites, all with private balconies, have pale walls, light and medium-toned woods, green accents, and twin or king-sized beds that can accommodate either three adults or two adults and one child. Located in the main Manor House and 16 two-storey Creole-style villa houses, the beachfront rooms overlook the ocean while the seaview rooms are set back behind the lawn. But the walk to the beach is fabulously quick, whichever room you choose. Sugar Beach’s sister resort, La Pirogue, is just next door, and guests can move between the two resorts and use all the amenities, such as the boathouse, restaurants and pools. Noo Saro-Wiwa

Heritage Le Telfair
Kids’ clubs are all well and good but for those with smaller babies, there isn’t always help available – and if it is, you usually pay extra. That’s why the Baby Timomo club at Heritage Le Telfair is worth shouting about. Its qualified A-team offers complimentary childcare for babies 0-35 months (it’s open 8.30-15.30, seven days a week) alongside a kids’ club for children three-plus and a dedicated teenager programme. So, while the teenies are napping peacefully inside, the older sproglets are feeding rabbits and chasing chickens, and the teens are at the junior golf academy, you can actually make a break for it and bliss out on a sun lounger, rum punch to hand. Elsewhere, there’s a laid-back, colonial feel to the hotel, and its quaint village style makes holidays here feel intimate and easy with sweeping sea-facing suites, floor-to-ceiling French windows and private balconies. The all-inclusive Gourmet Bliss package offers a choice of 12 restaurants, including authentic Mauritian farm-to-fork fine dining and a wine cellar at Château de Bel Ombre, alongside teppanyaki and sushi at pan-Asian Gin'ja, while the kids’ will probably only care about the kiosk serving up homemade artisanal ice cream and sorbets made from seasonal produce.
Address: Heritage Le Telfair, B9 Coastal Road, Bel Ombre, Mauritius
Price: From about £380 per night.

Constance Belle Mare Plage
The first thing you should know about Constance Belle Mare Plage is that it’s regularly dubbed one of the best family hotels in Mauritius. Yes, it has the location, sitting on 2km of that icing-sugary soft beach, surrounded by thatched villas, tropical gardens and two 18-hole golf courses, but it's the service that is a cut above. The philosophy of ‘come as a guest, leave as a friend’ sees families fully embraced, Mauritian-style (the hotel is owned by Mauritian brand Constance and there’s a sense of homegrown pride everywhere). At the Coconut Tribe, children ages 4-11 get stuck into circus games, crab hunts, local arts and crafts and pizza-making while the ‘feel like a team member’ activity sees little ones getting stuck into helping out at the hotel. The serene rooms, with splashes of ocean blues and wispy sands, are a winner for families, with heaps of interconnecting options but the beachfront villas (sleeping two adults and two children) are worth the extra buck for their jungly gardens and private pools. For even bigger broods, or if the extended family are coming, go for the jewel in the crown, the palatial five-bedroomed beachfront Presidential villa that comes with two pools, a butler and a kitchen, should you want a private chef.
Address: Constance Belle Mare Plage, Poste de Flacq 41602, Mauritius
Price: From about £300 per night.

Anahita Golf & Spa Resort
Nestled on the east coast of Mauritius surrounded by sugar plantations, verdant tropical gardens and an 18-hole golf course, Anahita is one of those rare gems that knows exactly what families want and delivers by the bucketload. Firstly, there are sprawling suites and villas – the Prestige Suites can sleep up to six guests, in three bedrooms (there are also one and two-bedroom variations) with sparkling sea views, their own kitchen and dining rooms, plus a soothing veranda and plunge pool that you’ll find impossible to bribe your darlings out of. If the extended family is coming, you’ll want one of Prestige Villas, with up to five bedrooms, these offer all the benefits of having your own pad for the week, with the facilities of a cracking resort at your beck and call. Families adore the flexible dining options here too. Don’t fancy the short walk to the main restaurant to dinner? They’ll deliver to your villa free of charge so you can indulge in the art of lazing around a little longer. There’s a free kids’ club (ages 4-13) where they’ll be busy spying on some of the resident turtles and playing games on the beach while older teens (ages 13-18) enjoy bike rides, movie nights and days trips to local nature reserve Domaine De L’étoile. They’ll need to be dragged home.
Address: Anahita Golf & Spa Resort, Beau Champ, Grande Riviere Sud Est, Mauritius
Price: From about £150 per night.
How we choose the best family-friendly hotels in Mauritius
Every hotel on this list has been selected independently by our editors and written by a Condé Nast Traveller journalist who knows the destination and has stayed at that property. When choosing hotels, our editors consider both luxury properties and boutique and lesser-known boltholes that offer an authentic and insider experience of a destination. We’re always looking for beautiful design, a great location and warm service – as well as serious sustainability credentials. We update this list regularly as new hotels open and existing ones evolve. Find out more about our editorial standards and how we review hotels.
