District Collector Vinay Goyal will inaugurate the district-level observance of the International White Cane Day on October 15 at the Civil Station.
A rally will begin at 9.30 a.m. from the main entrance of the civil station. The Collector, officials, and public representatives will join visually impaired participants in the rally, wearing blindfolds and carrying white canes.
The observance aims to raise public awareness about the abilities and challenges of people with visual disabilities. “Blindness is not the absence of vision” is this year’s message.
The programme will be organised jointly by the Malappuram district administration, Kerala School for the Blind at Vallikkappatta, and the Malappuram Lions Club.
A public meeting, an awareness session, and cultural programmes by students with visual disabilities will follow at the collectorate conference hall.
