The Whale Class fleet offers up to 600MW of grid-ready power.
Seatrium has secured a contract to convert and integrate five of Karpowership’s Whale Class Powerships, with the first vessel scheduled to arrive at its Tuas Boulevard Yard in December 2027.
The Singapore-based offshore and marine engineering company said in a statement on 23 October that its scope of work includes equipment integration, mechanical completion, and pre-commissioning. Engineering activities are already underway.
The Powerships are floating power plants equipped with hydrogen-ready multi-fuel generation systems and onboard substations that connect directly to national electricity grids.
The Whale Class can deploy up to 600 megawatts of grid-ready power, whilst Karpowership’s plug-and-play design allows the vessels to begin generating electricity in as little as 30 days.
“This significant milestone marks Seatrium’s first major conversion work and integration of Karpowership’s Whale Class Powerships,” said Alvin Gan, Executive Vice President for Repairs and Upgrades at Seatrium.
The contract follows an August 2025 letter of intent that included the potential integration of up to six new-generation Powerships.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW
Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.
Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.
We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.
If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
