The Washington Commanders’ disastrous clock mismanagement in Week 5 tie against the New York Giants has become one of the season’s most infamous moments. However, it seemingly happened again in the Ivy League showdown between Columbia and Penn, where the Quakers produced their own case of clock mismanagement.
Penn moved closer to the 35-yard line before attempting to get its kicking unit onto the field with only 10 seconds remaining. The Quakers attempted a field goal, but the kick missed, allowing Columbia to hold on for a 28-27 win.
As a result, fans quickly saw the similarities with the Commanders, where head coach Dan Quinn could have just called in the kicker instead of trying to push the ball closer with just a few seconds left.
“Dan Quinn would be proud,” one person noted.
“My god, you gotta fire the HC,” another person added.
Unlike the Washington Commanders, Penn managed to get the kicker out in time, but just barely. The field goal attempt missed, and the Lions escaped with a dramatic win.
Penn Falls To Bottom of Ivy League Standings After Clock Mismanagement Loss
That loss to Columbia cost Penn more than a game. The Quakers are now at the very bottom of the Ivy League standings. The team is now 0-2 in the conference and 2-3 overall. The Quakers will take on Yale next. Yale is 3-1 overall, 1-1 in the conference, and riding a two-game winning streak.
Harvard is still undefeated at 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Ivy League, making it the No. 1 team in the conference right now, with Princeton in second at 3-1 and then Columbia, which beat Penn, coming in third at 4-1 overall.
