Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are dominating all their opponents in the 2026 NFL season. They recently beat the Los Angeles Chargers with a score of 22-6. They are still yet to lose a single game, one of three teams to be unbeaten in the league.
Mahomes has been great for the franchise, and has contributed heavily to their performances. He has also topped one elite record this season already.
Patrick Mahomes leads NFL in one stat
Mahomes returned from a December 2025 torn ACL and LCL in his left knee at the start of the season, and has only performed well this season. In five games, the quarterback has completed 105 of 158 passes for 1,309 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions.
According to CBS Sports’ Garrett Podell in his Week 7 quarterback rankings, Mahomes leads the NFL with 27 completions outside the pocket and ranks second with five touchdown passes from outside the pocket. This is despite missing one week of action due to a bye week. Podell wrote that regarding Mahomes “no one is better when throwing outside the pocket.” Despite his great performances, Podell ranked Mahomes fourth in his quarterback rankings due to missing games through injury last season, with Brock Purdy, Josh Allen, and Jared Goff ranked first, second, and third respectively.
The ability to throw accurately while moving has always been central to his game. Despite returning from a knee injury, Mahomes has regained the mobility and reset ability required for those plays. This makes his recovery even more impressive.
The 31-year-old has admitted that he still lacks some pre-injury burst but felt improved following the team’s bye week. He said, “After the bye week, I felt better physically… There’s still some burst I don’t have… But that’s something we’ll continue to work on.” Mahomes was also praised by another analyst as well, who added that a teammate has complemented him well.
Patrick Mahomes’s success attributed to teammate addition
Fox Sports’ Henry McKenna has noted the complementary effect of running back Kenneth Walker III, who has produced strong numbers while Mahomes has performed well under pressure.
He said, “No coincidence that Mahomes is having an unreal season against pressure while Walker has been unreal against stacked boxes. It’s just two players defying everything we know about football. It’s two players who are on another level. That’s why it hasn’t mattered so much who is playing left tackle or wide receiver for the Chiefs.”
Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will now prepare as they face the Seattle Seahawks at their home.
