The European Fair Play Movement (EFPM) has honored a prominent Hungarian sports diplomat and lawyer. Dr. Zsigmond Nagy, secretary general and legal director of the Hungarian Boxing Association, has been named this year’s winner in the individual category, becoming the first Hungarian to receive the prestigious distinction. The award ceremony will take place on December 3 at the headquarters of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) in Paris, in the Pierre de Coubertin Hall.
Dr. Zsigmond Nagy was nominated by Dr. Jenő Kamuti, honorary president of the International Fair Play Committee (CIFP), Index reports. The EFPM said its decision recognized the recipient’s decades of commitment to the cause.
“With this award, we wish to recognize Dr. Zsigmond Nagy’s outstanding academic and professional contribution to promoting the spirit of fair play in European and international sport, as well as his long-standing commitment to strengthening sports ethics, good governance, and legal integrity within the Olympic movement,” the organization said.
Dr. Zsigmond Nagy has been a prominent figure in Hungarian and international sport for three decades.
He served as international director responsible for the Hungarian Olympic Committee’s (MOB) international relations from 2007 to 2009, and again from 2010 to 2018.
He is also regarded as a pioneer in the academic training of sports lawyers and sports diplomats in Hungary. He teaches sports diplomacy and sports venue management at the Hungarian University of Sports Science in Budapest, as well as at the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of Pázmány Péter Catholic University.
Founded in 1994, the European Fair Play Movement is an independent non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting fair play, respect, tolerance, and ethical values both in sport and in everyday life, going beyond the mere observance of competition rules.
Its work focuses on fostering solidarity, integrity and mutual respect, as well as combating doping, corruption, match-fixing, racism, and discrimination. It also works closely with National Olympic Committees, European sports federations, the European Commission and the International Fair Play Committee.
Through its annual Spirit of Fair Play Awards, the EFPM recognizes athletes, teams and sports officials who not only uphold these principles but actively put them into practice. This year, the award goes to Dr. Zsigmond Nagy, whose career has been dedicated to safeguarding integrity and upholding legal standards in sport.
