“My priority will be ensuring we deliver meaningful value to our members while providing a strong, independent voice for businesses across CBRM,” Inglis said in a press release.
“I want to listen to our members, understand the challenges and opportunities they are seeing every day and work together to create more opportunities for businesses of all sizes.”
Inglis will take over for Megan Penney, whose departure was announced in September by the chamber.
He brings more than 20 years of experience in higher education, economic development, communications, relationship building, fundraising and organizational leadership.
As CEO, effective Nov. 2, Inglis will oversee the chamber’s operations, member engagement, advocacy and business development efforts while working with the board, staff and community partners to support a strong and sustainable business community across CBRM.
He joins the chamber from the Port of Sydney Development Corporation, where he serves as manager of Marketing and Business Development. Before joining the port, he spent five years with Cape Breton University, where he led alumni engagement and developed programs, partnerships and communications serving a global network of more than 40,000 alumni.
He previously served as director of communications with the Cape Breton Partnership.
“We are very pleased to welcome Mark as the chamber’s new CEO,” said Melissa Vickers, chair of the Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce board of directors, in a press release. “Mark brings a strong understanding of Cape Breton’s business landscape, the needs of our community and the opportunities ahead for our region. He has built his career around bringing people together, developing strong relationships and turning ideas into action.”
The Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce represents more than 300 members across a wide range of industries in the CBRM.
