The NHL has decided to sell almost all playoff and finals viewing rights to pay-to-view channels. Go ahead and continue with this. I will never pay to watch hockey in Canada.

Terry Fox will soon be on the $5 bill (the Fox Fiver). Michael J. Fox was just named Companion of the Order of Canada. Why not put him on the next $10 bill?

DOWNSTREAM
When I was a young fella playing street hockey, I was always Bobby Hull and my brother was always Ken Dryden. When I played baseball at the local park with my buddies, I was Hank Aaron. Football, I was Tony Gabriel. Why did I want to be these guys? Well, I was so impressed with them, watching how good they were on television. Because of seeing them, I wanted to play as many sports as I could. Regular exercise, bonding with others with the same dreams, learning how to be a teammate, all from seeing our role models on television. Not everyone can afford to sign up for even more specialty channels, on top of the cost of registering kids to play sports. The recent World Cup was a great example of kids’ exposure to soccer and its positive influence. Kids today should be exposed to as many sports as possible, pretending to be the current stars of today, good role models who get them out of the basement and off electronic toys and onto the local park. It is hard to pick an idol if your parents can’t afford the extra cable or streaming cost. Imagine how many kids will never develop an interest in sports because they don’t even know who the current stars are, never mind, in most cases, how positive a role model these athletes are. What a shame.
