BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Monday accused Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of trying to create instability and chaos in the country, and alleged that his actions were aimed at weakening constitutional institutions and damaging India’s image globally.
At a press conference, Thakur said the country had never seen such “theatrics and tantrums” from a leader of opposition. He described Gandhi as “destabilising, chaotic and unserious” and took aim at his repeated allegations of “vote chori”, claiming that he was challenging the people’s mandate.
Thakur said, “Rahul Gandhi is a ‘hawa hawai’ leader. His entire style of politics follows the same pattern ‘hawa hawai’ — hollow statements, baseless allegations, hollow actions, hollow protests and hollow facts.” He also accused Gandhi of repeatedly shifting blame to institutions such as the Election Commission, electronic voting machines and the chief election commissioner.
“The situation has now deteriorated to the point where Rahul Gandhi is resorting to street-level language and making baseless allegations,” Thakur alleged. He added, “Rahul ji, the country needs truth, not noise. It needs evidence, not allegations. It needs clear answers, not political statements.”
The former Union minister further claimed that when Gandhi approached the President, he was asked to provide evidence along with his complaint, but remained silent. Thakur also alleged that the Supreme Court had made it clear to Gandhi that he could not turn the court into a battleground for his politics.
He also questioned Gandhi’s approach to the judiciary in matters where cases are pending. Thakur’s remarks centred on his charge that Gandhi’s repeated attacks on institutions, including over the issue of “vote chori”, were creating confusion and challenging constitutional processes.
In sum, Thakur accused Gandhi of making baseless allegations, targeting institutions and questioning the mandate, while also attacking his conduct in relation to the President and the judiciary.
