World News, the British '80s revivalists whose clean and lively guitar-pop will have you flashing back to Mark Knopfler and Johnny Marr, will finally release their debut album In Purgatory this Friday, which ironically will bring their fans out of purgatory in a sense. (Hey, some of us have been waiting a long time for this!) Today they're wetting our beaks with one more early sample to follow "Everything Is Coming Up Roses," "Sidestep," and "The Way It Goes."
"Vinegar Swimming Pool" is on the darker, heavier, groovier side of the jangly and accessible World News sound. The bass and rhythm guitar pull you briskly along through stabs of funky high-pitched chords, and those vocal harmonies hit like a pleasant breeze over a raging current. They even break out the distortion pedals for this one — tastefully, of course. Listen below and let the rhythm move you.
In Purgatory is out 10/16 on Pie & Mash Records.
