WINDSOR - Last year, Greenwich golfer Will Neuenfeldt was surprised to win the CIAC Division I boys golf championship.
This year's win came as a surprise, too, to the senior. Still, Neuenfeldt captured his second straight Division I title Wednesday afternoon, firing a 1-under-par 69 at Keney Park to win by a shot.

"I'm honestly shocked," Neuenfeldt said. "Last year, I did not think I would do it and it was probably the best round of my life at the time. Also having it happen this year, I really was paying more attention and focused, committed to certain shots."
There was another winning streak that continued Wednesday. Fairfield Prep captured its fourth consecutive team championship. The Jesuits won by six strokes over Conard.
Fairfield Prep's top five golfers all shot between 70 and 72. Graham Geisler led the way with an even-par 70, tying for second overall.
"We had a lot of pressure put on us to go out there and execute, but I think we did a really good job and it means a lot," said Geisler, who spent his first two seasons at Greenwich before transferring to Fairfield Prep.

Prep coach Rudy Maurtitz, recognizing his team's depth, said he made some season-long adjustments to the starting lineup, giving many of the reserves a chance to play rather than using the same starting five for each match.
The intention was to allow more than five golfers to qualify for the Division I meet. That meant all golfers had to play the required 10 regular-season matches to qualify. That led to some close losses during the season.
"I talked to those older guys at the beginning of the season," Mauritz said. "I said, ‘Hey, here's what I would like to do and here's what it's going to mean.' They all were like, ‘Let's do it.' ... We needed to dig deep and grind it out. There was a point where we were down four strokes as a team (to Conard)."
Prep's Alex Mack, a freshman, shot a 71 while Luke Hoglund, Luke Kowalchik and Austin Mack all shot 72. Billy Rosati posted a 75.
This was the third time in this decade that Conard finished second to Prep in a CIAC Division I meet.
"I'm very pleased with the boys. They've worked hard this year, it's been a great season," Conard golf coach Brett Franklin said.
Last year, Neuenfeldt shot a 68, the only player to break 70, to claim the crown at Stanley Golf Course in New Britain.
"Obviously, I was thinking about last year, but didn't expect to do it again. I'm very happy and proud of myself (with) the work I put in," said Neuenfeldt, who said he is not playing golf in college.
New Canaan's Quinn Susanin tied for second and got to 2-under par during the windy round thanks to four birdies on the back nine. But he bogeyed the final two holes to finish one behind Neuenfeldt.
"I got really hot on the back nine, so I knew I had a chance," Susanin said. "My buddies told me on 17 I was up by one. ... Pretty proud of my round today and how I played. A little unfortunate to get second place, but that's OK."
